A new mother and football fever at Sydney Cottage
It was sad to see our previous Sydney Cottage housemother go - but we have found her perfect replacement in Dinah. The boys already love her - and we know that you would too. The best part is that Dinah has a long history with Nazareth House - going back to when she had to leave school at age 16 and work to help her family financially. Starting with us as a cleaner - Dinah’s potential was soon recognised by Sister Joseph Raphael who trained her as a cook ... and she became the star baker of wonderful cakes for every Nazareth House fete. Marriage and children interrupted but Dinah never lost her link with us. And recently - drawn back to Nazareth House - Dinah was offered the position of Housemother to our community cottage family of six lively boys. With her great love for children Dinah has settled in as a ‘natural’. And she’s always willing to be dragged off to the local park so that the boys can play their favourite game – soccer. The boys are so excited about the World Cup coming to South Africa. Roland - a friend from the UK who spent a year volunteering with us - has sent them each a football strip. From the owner of Sydney Cottage they’ve received a World Cup 2010 football each and T-shirts printed with the names of the different participating countries. And the logos of favourite teams are prominently displayed on the duvet covers on their beds. From kick-off to the final game - it’s going to be a thrilling month. |
